Bison Caravan is a travelling art exhibition. A nomadic collection of artworks that travels over the world as a herd of bisons.
Where it decides to rest, artists are invited to participate, donate one or more works and become part of the group. In this way a universal collection of artworks has come into existence where differences of country, religion, and economic or ethnographic background do not count. No hierarchy.
In these encounters participants from all over the world connect through the power of the iconic image of the bison. Bison Caravan is an autonomous collection and is owned by itself. Conceptualized by the artist and poet Hilarius Hofstede, Bison Caravan combines the spirit of art and music, life and nature in an unpredictable, timeless trail.
Seven Bison Caravan expositions have taken place so far, combined with concerts, workshops and other events: In Denmark/Aarhus in 2003, France/Marseille 2004, Holland/Vlissingen 2005, Mali/Bamako 2006, Poland/Bialowieza 2008, HollandAmsterdam 2014 and Brazil/Rio de Janeiro 2017. The next exhibition will be in Belgium/Brussels in 2019."
